THE SECRET POLICEMAN’S BALL

The Secret Policeman’s Ball - The Ball in the Hall marked the resurrection of a legendary show.

In the 1970s Monty Python’s The Secret Policeman’s Ball was a huge global hit and a massive fundraiser for Amnesty International. In 2006 Open Sky’s and show producer Lisle Turner convinced Amnesty International and Channel 4 that it was time to resurrect the show. The Pythons supported the endeavour and artists lined up to volunteer their time for free. From movie stars like Ian Mckellen and Jeremy Irons to comedians like Jimmy Fallon, Chevy Chase and Sarah Silverman the bill included 65 performers. The live TV broadcast was created by Tiger Aspect, won its primetime ratings slot by a mile, sold all over the world and was a highly successful DVD release via Warner Bros. The backstage content generated twenty million views in a week and resulted in a BAFTA nomination for interactivity. Most importantly it generated a huge surge in publicity and membership for Amnesty International.
